Pittsburgh Steelers

Montee Ball - Drafted

In this article series we will profile the ball carriers that will be changing uniforms in 2013 (Bradshaw in Indy and Ivory with the J-E-T-S) as well as a few potential impact rookies (Bell in Pittsburgh and Ball in Denver) that could make a splash in their first season in the big leagues. With Reggie Bush taking his talents from South Beach to Detroit, Lamar Millar will be given a chance to excel as the feature back in a Dolphin offense that could surprise after the offseason additions of WR Mike Wallace and TE Dustin Keller.

The Steelers are expecting their star QB back against the Chargers for Week 14. None too soon for the receivers who have struggled to post legitimate numbers without Big Ben at the helm.

A few big name pass catchers will be sidelined by the BYE in week 11 including Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks, Percy Harvin, and, or what it’s worth, the unpredictable receivers in Tennessee and Seattle are off. Julio Jones is a game time decision. As always, injuries will surely play a role in your lineup decisions and our interactive injury chart/fantasy advice feature will keep you up to date.

Rashard Mendenhall may finally be ready to return. He’s the big name with the largest paycheck and most proven history so it stands to reason he’ll get a chance to reclaim the starting gig in light of the other rushers struggling. Against the Chiefs on Monday night Jonathan Dwyer (19/56) and Isaac Redman (8/21) couldn’t get anything going. The ground game will be critical with Byron Leftwich at QB. Mendenhall is officially listed as ‘Questionable’ and we will know more when we learn about who did and didn’t practice today.

Byron Leftwich will get the start. Leftwich is so immobile that they haven’t a word to adequately describe his lack of mobility. Think of a 85 year-old man with knee and hip replacements and a walker that about sums it up. He also isn’t so good at throwing the ball any longer.

Brown’s ankle injury is most likely going to preclude him from playing in week 10. That opens the door for Emmanuel Sanders, who has finally managed to stay healthy and looks likes a quality replacement. So, we have more less-than-classy Emmanuel Sanders behavior to look forward to (very un-Steelerlike actually) like every 3 yard reception is something to go be celebrated.

Dwyer (quad) missed Friday’s practice and is listed as questionable. Isaac Redman is now penciled in as the week 9 starter. Mendy is expected to be in street clothes.

This injury doesn’t seem to be anything to worry about. Dwyer is coming off back-to-back 100 yard games and he’s looked very strong. He downplayed the quad injury after it was mentioned by Steelers HC Mike Tomlin. Dwyer indicated that it won’t hold him back.
