With the combine on the horizon (starts Weds Feb 22nd) we are in full draft prep mode.
Today we present the WR prospect rankings from one of the better resources on the planet – WalterFootball.com. Walt goes the extra yard to present which round he sees each player will be selected and this year the WRs will be going early and often. He sees five potential first rounders and as many as 11 WRs with the potential to hear their names called before the end of round 2.
Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon is viewed as the prize of this class and could go in the top 5 while Baylor’s Kendall Wright is gaining momentum and some actually have him atop their draft boards. LSU’s Rueben Randle creeped into Mike Mayock’s most recent top 5 and at 6’4 he could be an ideal fit for teams at the end of round 1 that are looking to improve their red zone efficiency (possibly San Francisco or Houston).
More than half the league are in desperate need of WR upgrades and they are in luck as this is one of the deeper draft classes in recent memory with as many as 5 WR projected to go in the first round. The only teams that we see that won’t consider WRs in the early rounds are the following: Atlanta, New Orleans (might reconsider if free agent Colston exits), Green Bay, Kansas City (provided they resign Dwayne Bowe), Dallas, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Detroit.
