The Steelers must be getting desperate for RB depth as they have surprisingly activated Rashard Mendenhall from the PUP list. Mendenhall suffered the injury in week 16 last season and his expected absence had Isaac Redman climbing draft boards. Redman suffered a groin injury in training camp that was labeled as minor but regardless his fantasy draft stock takes a hit with Mendenhall now back in the mix – although we question that he’ll be anything close to 100% before midseason at the earliest.

Redman’s ADP had him coming off the boards in rounds 6/7 as a higher end RB2 but that figures to fall based on today’s news that Rashard Mendenhall will likely be in uniform week 1.

The Steelers backfield is now shaping up as a dreaded RBBC depressing the fantasy value of all parties involved. Mendenhall is just 25 years old and has amassed 30 TDs over the past three seasons. His YPC has remained pedestrian but Mendy might make for a lottery ticket worth punching depending on your level of risk taking. We still wouldn’t touch him until rounds 9/10 at the earliest.
