In a surprising move the Steelers have activated Rashard Mendenhall off the PUP list.  The only reason they would do this is if they believe Mendenhall can contribute before week 6 and that is bad news for the fantasy stock of Isaac Redman.  This may be a reflection of the disappointing performance and injury issues from Redman so far.

The Steelers have an early bye in Week 4 and we think that there’s little chance that Mendenhall will contribute before week 5 when they come back from the bye.  Isaac Redman’s ADP will plummet but may still remain high enough that he’s not going to be worth adding as part of a strategy similar to what we have been advocating with Kevin Smith of the Lions.  But if you do take one of the RBs who will be slow starters (Adrian Peterson, Trent Richardson, MJD maybe) or non-starters because of injury/suspension (Ryan Mathews,  maybe Marshawn Lynch) and Redman is available late he may have value as a guy you can count on the get you some production over the first couple weeks while one of those aforementioned RBs gets up to speed.

The overall strategy we are advocating for the Steelers backfield is to stay away.  We’re not convinced they are going to run much more than they have over the past three seasons and we don’t see one RB emerging to become a weekly  fantasy starter.
