Andy Reid has made it official, the Eagles best receiver, Jeremy Maclin will miss Sunday’s contest with the Arizona Cardinals.  This will mean more playing time for the consistent, if unspectacular, Jason Avant, but Damaris Johnson should see more action than Avant.

Jason Brewer writing for says not to expect a Ramses Barden type impact from any of the Eagles wide receivers who will fill in for Maclin.

The crew at has Desean Jackson ranked at #21 in their week 3 WR rankings.  The highest ranking among their experts is #13 and the lowest is #23.

Damaris Johnson is the guy we would add if were looking to replace Maclin with an Eagle.

He’s shown good speed and quickness and he could be Vick’s favorite short yardage target after Brent Celek.  There are real concerns about all Philadelphia Eagles offensive options entering the game.  Not only are the Birds playing with their third option at left tackle but they lost their starting center and have elevated a practice squad player to start.  The Cardinals defense has proven to be formidable and Michael Vick has proven he can’t read defenses.  Not good.

Jackson will be the focus if the defense and he’s a WR3 for week 3 in our estimation.  Andy Reid will use a combination of targets to make up for the absence of Maclin so we agree that there isn’t likely to be a Ramses Barden type performance here.
