NEWS
The official timeline for Rob Gronkowski’s return is 4-8 weeks. Albert Breer and others are saying that Gronk will be pushing to return in Week 14 after just 2 weeks missed. We find that unlikely. If he does return in Week 14 then he will have a couple challenging matchups against the 49ers who are surrendering the 4th fewest fantasy points per game to tight ends (5.9) and the Texans who are not quite as tough, but are still only giving up 7.9 fantasy points per game.
VIEWS
With Gronkowski out and Aaron Hernandez slated to return this week Rotoworld.com says that Hernandez is second only to Jimmy Graham at the TE position for Week 12.
BrunoBoys.com recommends Mercedes Lewis as the top waiver wire option at TE. They point out that over the past 2 weeks with Chad Henne at the helm, Lewis has been targeted 14 times, has 10 receptions, 117 yards, and 2 TDs.
Check out this list of TE options that may be available on the waiver wire from Rotoexperts.com. It includes some names you may not have thought of and the argument for them including Garrett Graham and Tony Moeaki.
FANTASY FOOTBALL SPIN
This is disasterous timing for fantasy footballers who were relying on Gronkowski to help them in their playoff run. We don’t see him returning in Week 14 and Week 15 is an iffy proposition as well. If you can make your way to the championship (week 16 in most leagues) you have a very good chance of getting the leagues best TE back. This makes Aaron Hernandez incredibly valuable over the next three to five weeks. Hernandez owners should feel like they just won the lottery. The Patriots have a three game lead in their rather pathetic division so their priority should be to have Gronkowski healthy for the playoffs since there is little chance they will feel pressed to win games with the division secured.
